Robert Palmer: Johnny and Mary [1980]

When Emmett first explained the concept of this blog to me, this is the song I thought I would post first.

In response to Emmett's comment in the comment page, there is much more development of Mary's character in this video.

Earlier I posted another song from Clues, an album which should be in everyone's collection.

  2. I have not heard "Johnny and Mary" in at least ten years.

Thanks for reminding me of a great album; now I've got to buy a copy of it! (just what the RIAA isn't suspecting...)

  3. The whole album is great. Do buy it, though I am pretty sure it is out of print... Anyway, you should be able to find it on vinyl on eBay for less than $5.

    Thanks for the comment...

  5. I bet you didn't even scar... I, on the other hand, broke two ribs.

  6. My only complaint about this song is that I feel that the character of Mary could have been developed more fully.

  7. Nice post, Mike.

I know the two songs are eight years apart, but for some reason "Johnny & Mary" always segues (in my head) into Robbie Robertson's "Somewhere Down the Crazy River"... or Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is", for that matter. Cool.
