801: Rongwrong-->Sombre Reptiles [1976]
from 801 Live, recorded at Queen Elizabeth Hall, 3 September 1976
"Rongwrong" was written by Quiet Sun-drummer and This Heat-founder Charles Hayward. Genius melody and chords. A drummer wrote that? :)
It occurs to me that in addition to "Sombre Reptiles", I also listened to Peter Gabriel's "Excellent Birds" yesterday. How many adjective/animal jams can you name?

ReplyDeletein this lifetime, i won't ever shake the grip of a rich, flavourful Eno vocal delivery.

...oh yeah, forgot my "animal" jam submission...
ReplyDeletein point of fact, Pink Floyd's "Sheep" will blow your balls off--and crush your big, stooopid head.
i just love when gems appear on albums labeled "difficult", "inaccessible",or "dense".

hi
ReplyDeletewhat's the source for this photo?
did the musical group also use this cover, of the dada publication from 1917?
Hi Veronica,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where the photo's from... I found it using google image search, somewhere. To my knowledge the band never used this image, but presumably the song title "Rongwrong" is a Marcel Duchamp reference. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Emmett
