Roy Harper: One Man Rock & Roll Band [1971]

from Stormcock

Just delving into Roy's catalogue now after hearing about him for years. Nice Roundabout-meets-A Day In The Life ending on this one.

Go to Roy's homepage for all your Roy Harper needs.

A note on the photo: In the background is Roy's producer Peter Jenner, who has some interesting ideas about how to deal with the whole "illegal downloading" issue.

Great track from perhaps Harper's most consistently listenable album to date. The only problem is i encounter a broken link on this and a lot of the previous posts (most annoyingly, Daevid Allen). Is it just me, or are other visitors encountering similar issues ?

The only link which has worked for me to date is King Crimson's 1969 closing album track - a great moment like so many others covered in the blog, which is a real pity, all things considered.

Hey IB -- thanks for your comment, and very sorry about the links! All I know is they work for me. The King Crimson is coming from a different hosting site, so it makes sense if that link is different from the others... but I don't know why you're having trouble with the regular links. Is anyone else having this difficulty, or does anyone have any insight on what could be happening here? IB, can you get to www.artdecade.us? That's where our files are hosted. If you can't reach that website for some reason, that may explain why the links aren't working for you...

Hi, Emmett. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I can get to www.artdecade.us (your home page) without any problem - but whenever i click on the links on www.artdecade.blogspot.com the files either load only partially and go dead in my browser or
generate a complete (but empty) Quicktime file.

I am using Safari and Firefox as my default browser, and although my connection is painfully slow i am used to waiting patiently for a file to load.

I notice other users seem to be experiencing no problems in linking, but i did wonder about the absence of comments re the recent posts.

IB -- I think the problem might be that your connection is slow, and our files are big. A lot of the songs are 7+ minutes, and I compress them at 192 or even 256 kb/s so that they will sound a little better. The downside is that this makes for big files which obviously take longer to download. Maybe your system has problems downloading, say, a 10 MB file? See if you can get the Babe Ruth track. That's a short one, and if you can get that one it might indicate that length is the issue.

I really hope you can find a way to get the downloads working. In the meantime, if you send me an email address, I'll try sending you the Daevid Allen track directly...
