I love Flash and the Pan and had to have a good hunt for this song ages ago, go to see it posted, I might go and buy a copy of panorama now (I think that's their album)

Thanks for the info, Ally. The Mike Oldfield track looked intriguing to me -- is it bad? I've never heard of some of the artists -- like "Bucks Fizz", for example. Maybe we'll post a complete top 20 sometime as an historical exercise.

Belated thanks for this. I've enjoyed hearing it again so much. The weird thing is I hated it back in the 80's

That's good to hear, Mick. Sometimes one questions the value of posting something that somebody somewhere might actually have heard before... Glad you enjoyed this after not hearing it for a while. I could definitely see hating this, BTW. It's grating in a way. But it seems to have aged better than a lot of its contemporaries on that chart.

Weren't they Australian? Were they 'big down under' (ahem)?

Emmett - the Mike Oldfield track was a BIG, BIG hit in the UK and still gets played now and then on middle-of-the-road daytime radio.

Very poppy, acoustic guitar driven, vocals from Oldfield's sister Sally, synth solo at the end. NOT in the least bit prog, which may or may nor be a good thing, depending on your viewpoint.

Can I put a vote in for Shakatak by the way?

Never hip, sometimes frankly embarassing (but maybe that was just the 80s big hair) they made some good lite-jazz/funk records.

Pianist Bill Sharpe continues to record under the name.

And America! Buck's Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK in 1981!!! They were ABBA copyists (sue me!).

Hey Davy, thanks for the comment! Prior to today I thought a Shakatak was just when Shaquille O'Neal goes mental in the paint... I will check out this band if I see their records anywhere.
