The original hit from 1980 was a great slice of quirky, narcissistic pop which was easily the best thing from the Beat. Recalled too the edgy feel of Malcolm Owen's Ruts, but self-conciously kept their own 2-tone appeal on a tighter leash.

These remixes dust off a bit of medicine cabinet canoodling very nicely indeed.

I wouldn't normally disagree with you, but I am a big fan of the English Beat, and though Mirror is one of their better songs I don't know if I would say it was easily the best thing from them. Hands Off... She's Mine, Sole Salvation, and I Confess are just three that would be vying in my mind for best thing. I do like these remixes though, especially the Adelphi.

What about Twist and Crawl? Bring back IRS Records!

Point taken. I still have "Tears of a Clown/Ranking Full Stop" on vinyl, so i did actually rate them. "Hands Off..." was a good single, as was "Too Nice to Talk to" - but "Mirror..." was really, really good.

Big B, IRS was a great label - the Cramps ; Wall of Voodoo...
