Ted Nugent: Free-For-All [1976]

When Oliver Fisher Winchester died in 1880, his ownership in Winchester Rifles passed to his son, William, who died of tuberculosis in March of the next year. William's wife Sarah believed the family was cursed by the spirits killed by the Winchester rifle, and moved to California and began building a chaotic mansion with her inheritance, to confuse the spirits seeking revenge.

Great tune, as usual. What's the connection to the Winchester mansion story [besides Nugent's obvious affinity for weapons of all kinds]? I recently read about the Winchester mansion as the inspiration for one of Jeremy Blake's final time-based digital paintings. Perhaps you're interested?

Anonymous, while you've touched on one plausible interpretation, something tells me there are literally dozens of embedded messages here, messages which DuPre himself will never reveal. Clearly, this post is DuPre's Finnegans Wake.

No connection to the Winchesters, other than the fact that they are my local rifle barons. (Well, used to be local. Now all that remains is the Winchester Arms factory which will become loft apartments in no time). The Blake work is interesting, thanks. I don't know much of his stuff, but did like Punch Drunk Love. I was sorry to read of his death this summer.

Loving this. Sounds a tiny bit like 1997-era Modest Mouse.

You know what just occurred to me? The guitar reminds me ever so slightly of Phish. I'll have to appeal to someone with more knowledge than I, but did they ever cover this?

You'll have to add a label to this one, if it is now a Phish-related post.
