Full marks to your classmate, Mike, for suggesting this.
I know the version from the "Times They are A-Changin'" but i'd never heard this live version either. Is the Carnegie Hall still used as an auditorium ? Excuse my ignorance. Fuck, but i wish i'd been there in 1963. There or a coffee shop in Greenwich Village.
The title alone is fetishistic enough to rank up there with "Venus in Furs". What a different emotion, though. Great !
Carnegie Hall is still used as an auditorium. It was refurbished in the 1990s (I believe it was the 90s), and now is ornate and pomp, and probably one of the best places in the world to see live, un-amplified music.
It's the antithesis to the current popular sleek and solemn design for new music halls.
I was thinking about "Venus in Furs" the other day while listening to Wooden Shjips, a up and coming band out of California. I'm enjoying their VU-like tunes. Sooner or later we might get around to posting a track or two by them.
Ah man, thanks so much. I actually have an unreleased Columbia soundboard boot called "Bob Dylan in Concert" which has 5 of the Carnegie songs on it (minus this one). It also includes some songs which Bob did at Town Hall (1963-04-12)as well. Is this what you have as well?
1. Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie 2. Lay Down Your Weary Tune 3. Dusty Old Fairgrounds 4. John Brown 5. When The Ship Comes In 6. Who Killed Davy Moore? 7. Percy's Song 8. Bob Dylan's New Orleans Rag 9. Seven Curses
Tracks 1, 3-4, 8: Town Hall, New York, April 12, 1963 Tracks 2, 5-7, 9: Carnegie Hall, New York, October 26, 1963

As usual, thanks for the comment.
