Bee Gees: Lemons Never Forget (mono mix)

Jerry Garcia Band: Werewolves of London

Only for the very curious. Trust me. Recorded 15 years ago today in New Jersey. I was in attendance, sitting somewhere behind the soundboard at Brendan Byrne Arena.

Monty Python & Monty Python & The Holy Grail: Executive Edition Addendum

Sparks: Tryouts For The Human Race

It seems like Russell, Ron, and Giorgio had a nice, creative vibe going in the studio when they convened in Munich to record this LP.

COMING SOON: the extended mix

Marijata: No Condition Is Permanent

Al Stewart: On The Border

I'm feeling the need to revisit this bumrocks via cracklin' chim heater from '06. Best snare-drum-on-2-but-not-on-4 tension since the intro to this one.

From Year of the Cat. Produced by Alan Parsons. Sleeve by Hipgnosis.

The Beat: Twist & Crawl Dub

Steve Hunter: Eldorado Street

From Swept Away. Best part at 1:47. Jim Gordon on drums.

Sonic Youth: I Dreamed I Dream

Donovan: Wear Your Love Like Heaven b/w Oh, Gosh!

Big B, that melodic connoisseur, emailed me an mp3 of "Wear Your Love" a few months back. "Oh, Gosh!", a similarly blissed-out major-seventh ditty, was the B-side of the original U.S. single release. Too much.

Both songs available on A Gift from a Flower to a Garden.

Grateful Dead: Crazy Fingers

Arguably my favorite Garcia/Hunter composition. It was cool to see this getting some reaction from the dream chimney community awhile back. The one downside of the studio version is you miss the Spanish bit they used to do at the end, so I spliced in some live footage to remedy that.

Tim Maia: Verão Carioca

The triumphant re-return of T. Maia to these pages. Featuring Tim himself on drums, making the executive decision to drop the tempo slightly after each chorus. Also: great snare drum sound.

Roxy Music: To Turn You On

Not necessarily the best song on the album, but one that's been speaking to me lately. A semi-schmaltzy yuppie power ballad with a beat. Featuring the legendary Alan Spenner on bass. Wicked muted fill from guitarist Neil Hubbard at the 0:25 mark; anomalous vocal double-tracking at 1:51.

Belle and Sebastian: The Blues are Still Blue

Sometimes a big dollop of seventies glam is all one needs...

Daryl Hall: Babs and Babs

Words and music by Daryl Hall. Produced and featuring guitar & Frippertronics by Robert Fripp. With Kenny Passarelli on bass, evidently enjoying himself on the outro. From the album Sacred Songs.

This is a good one to turn to when you're in the mood to listen to "Rich Girl" but you don't actually want to listen to "Rich Girl".

The triumphant return of Harpers Bizarre to these pages. This one has appeared on a couple of other blogs before, and with good reason, as it's a bloody masterpiece. Written by Jim Pepper, based on Native American healing chants. Available on Harpers Bizarre IV.

Traffic: Shootout At The Fantasy Factory

Featuring the all-universe rhythm section of Roger Hawkins (drums), David Hood (bass), and Rebop. If the lengthy guitar solo isn't to your taste, you can just focus on what David Hood is playing during that part.

Recorded at Strawberry Hill Studios, Jamaica

American Beauty: 1970 Firebird (I Rule!)

Hmm, let me think.
