Sparks: Tryouts For The Human Race
It seems like Russell, Ron, and Giorgio had a nice, creative vibe going in the studio when they convened in Munich to record this LP.
COMING SOON: the extended mix

Al Stewart: On The Border
I'm feeling the need to revisit this bumrocks via cracklin' chim heater from '06. Best snare-drum-on-2-but-not-on-4 tension since the intro to this one.
From Year of the Cat. Produced by Alan Parsons. Sleeve by Hipgnosis.

Steve Hunter: Eldorado Street
From Swept Away. Best part at 1:47. Jim Gordon on drums.

Donovan: Wear Your Love Like Heaven b/w Oh, Gosh!
Big B, that melodic connoisseur, emailed me an mp3 of "Wear Your Love" a few months back. "Oh, Gosh!", a similarly blissed-out major-seventh ditty, was the B-side of the original U.S. single release. Too much.
Both songs available on A Gift from a Flower to a Garden.

Grateful Dead: Crazy Fingers
Arguably my favorite Garcia/Hunter composition. It was cool to see this getting some reaction from the dream chimney community awhile back. The one downside of the studio version is you miss the Spanish bit they used to do at the end, so I spliced in some live footage to remedy that.

Tim Maia: Verão Carioca
The triumphant re-return of T. Maia to these pages. Featuring Tim himself on drums, making the executive decision to drop the tempo slightly after each chorus. Also: great snare drum sound.

Roxy Music: To Turn You On
Not necessarily the best song on the album, but one that's been speaking to me lately. A semi-schmaltzy yuppie power ballad with a beat. Featuring the legendary Alan Spenner on bass. Wicked muted fill from guitarist Neil Hubbard at the 0:25 mark; anomalous vocal double-tracking at 1:51.

Daryl Hall: Babs and Babs
Words and music by Daryl Hall. Produced and featuring guitar & Frippertronics by Robert Fripp. With Kenny Passarelli on bass, evidently enjoying himself on the outro. From the album Sacred Songs.
This is a good one to turn to when you're in the mood to listen to "Rich Girl" but you don't actually want to listen to "Rich Girl".
