Bill Evans - Theme from M*A*S*H (Suicide is Painless)

Recorded in 1977, though released on the posthumous You Must Believe in Spring (1981). I like the bass line.

Bill Evans: Piano
Eddie Gomez: Bass
Eliot Zigmund: Drums

Yes! Bill Evan, my favorite non-comedic pianist.

Did you know that Robert Altman's son wrote this song?

I did not know that.

It's Monk who's a barrel of laughs, right?

Yes, Monk and others whose names escape me now.

BTW someone should post something from Infidels...

Most all-time famous theme song for a TV show?

Have you heard Megadeth's version of this?

You know what's a funky TV theme show song? Barney Miller.

I've never heard Megadeth's version - is it more or less lyrical than Evans's? Barney Miller is funky, I can still hear the intro. The Taxi theme, posted by Emmett some time ago here, is pretty iconic too.

Taxi is probably more recognizable. What about Hill Street Blues?

Megadeth did a great version of the Duke Nukem theme, so their M*A*S*H hs to be worth checking.
