Eurythmics: Love is a Stranger

You think this is the best stanza ever written on the topic of love:

It's savage and it's cruel
And it shines like destruction.
Comes in like the flood
And it seems like religion
It's noble and it's brutal
It distorts and deranges
And it wrenches you up
And you're left like a zombie.

But then, a mere 23 seconds later, you're confronted with this:

It's guilt edged,
glamorous and sleek by design
You know it's jealous by nature
False and unkind
It's hard and restrained
And it's totally cool
It touches and it teases
As you stumble
In the debris.

So...you know...

Hello,

You're right - they're brilliant lyrics. "Sweet Dreams" and then "Touch" are both full of bitter, heartbroken electro pop but they went a bit MOR rock after that.

I loved them when I was a kid but only discovered "In the Garden" years later, considering their profile I think it's one of the great lost albums (if you're into that sort of thing, which you probably are).

You've totally hit the nail on the head about this lyric. It's always left me dumbstruck. I love the track very much, but if pushed to criticise, I could do without the 'uh!' bits from Dave!. Uh!

Thanks for the comments, gang. This was definitely a revisit for me, and a happy one.
