Bob James - El Verano

Kicking off summer 2010 with this bringing-tears-to-my-eyes jam originally posted on bumrocks in Feb. 2007. Featuring a delayed snare drum hit at 2:26, one of my favorite rare funk tropes. For another example of same, check the 1:58 mark (and following) in this.

P.S. It's Steve Gadd on drums. Compare/contrast the intro to 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.

Bob can kick ass.

In a seriously understated kind of way...

Great accompanying shot, too. Interesting about the "50 Ways" connection in Steve Gadd. More than just the introduction, both tunes seem to share a thing or two in common.

"One" is a monumental album. A cul de sac where the elevator music of "Feel Like Making Love" meets the zen jazz of "Nautilus".

wonderful! the perfect soundtrack for my trip down to Barcelona Roxy next week!

the mood and the arrangement of the wind section of this jam very much remind me of the mood/sound on my favourite george benson album "White Rabbit".

Thanks for the comments guys; glad you liked it. Ano: I haven't checked out GB's White Rabbit LP, but I will. Does he cover the Jefferson Airplane on it?

yes, em, it is the ja song. song i pretty much wore out the lp during my sophomore year in college. it was probably the finest of the very slick and mostly mostly overproduced cti releases. california dreamin was my favorite cut.
