Holger Czukay: Persian Love [1979]
Brian Eno & David Byrne: A Secret Life [1981]

Persian Love is off Can founding-member Holger Czukay's Movies.

A Secret Life is off the often extolled Eno and Byrne collaboration My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.

Two songs that oddly enough, and randomly, played back-to-back on my mp3 player today.

Buy Holger Czukay's striking album here.
Buy the Eno & Byrne collaboration here.

I have always associated "Movies" with "Bush of Ghosts". It was actually my love for the latter that led to my discovering "Movies". Both works are considered innovative for their use of what was essentially a pre-cursor to 'sampling', set against various rhythm sections and backdrops. Bill Laswell (played bass on BOG) once said in an interview, that Eno's original intent on the BOG record was to have it sound like Neu or Can (there's a connection right there), but that things got very funky due to the session players, and that Eno/Byrne ran with it.
I also want to say that "Art Decade" is far and above my favorite 'blog, especially the 'long seventies' misson statement - keep up the awesome work!!

Jason - Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen that interesting Eno quote. I really haven't read much about BOG. Might be required reading...

Also thanks for the endorsement of the blog. We are having fun with it, and I agree with you re: our tagline. Emmett actually developed a complicated algorithm to guide contributors on what constitutes the long 70s and what portion of our posts can fall outside the “long 70s” guidelines. He’s smart like that.

Stay tuned!

Mike - Here's a link to the Laswell interview (it's _way_ down the page). I certainly take his view with a grain of salt, but you can never have too many sides to a great story...

And the 'official' site...

Thank you much for both...

Never mind the music, where are the algorithms? (Or perhaps only a father would care)

The algorithm is really not that complex. If you're good at Sudoku you should be able to figure it out.

I would love to find a mp3 version of Czukay's Persian Love. Know where I could find one? I am happy to pay for the track. And I get the Movies/Persian Love /BOG connection completely. Takes me back...
