Steve Miller Band: Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma

I'm all about the part that starts at 2:53

Nice vibe, Emmett. The guitar that comes in at 3:12 sounds oddly as if Tom Verlaine's been unexpectedly drafted in to get down with the band...

Great shot too. I almost expect to see a Veedon Fleece era Van Morrison shaking his fist somewhere near the entrance.

Ha ha. Yeah, the cover of Veedon Fleece with Van and his sheepdogs airbrushed out probably would have been closer to the image I was looking for.

Thanks to bass player Gerald Johnson for his work on this, BTW.

I am embarassed to admit I saw this band circa 1990/91 with Mike Shay.

Isn't that the chateau in France where Leonardo lived for a spell? Or am I just off base here? Regardless, isn't that Leonardo's car? I'm embarrassed to say that I saw Steve Miller open for the Grateful Dead with anonymous.

Why embarrassed? I remember when Fly Like an Eagle was the soundtrack to the hottest dance going on the art opening after-party circuit.

I'm smiling. I haven't heard this tune in a long time. Excellent vibe. Capitol put out a Steve Miller Band Anthology at one point; if Sheridan and Anonymous were to give it a listen you'd realize that most everything SMB did in the 70's was a reconstitution of what he wrote in the 1960's. It's not embarrassment; it's muscle memory!

Namaste.
