10cc - Gismo My Way

I needn't bore you with the particulars of why or how this came to pass, but I was recently granted an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. When I told him of my Quest, he sipped from his tea, and then asked with a faint gleam in his eye if I had ever looked into any 10cc B-sides. Flustered and stammering, I replied that I had not. There followed a long silence in which His Holiness and I stared at each other in complete stillness. Then His Holiness nodded, almost imperceptibly, and I was given to understand that our meeting was over.

Great post cuz... Have you listened to the stuff Graham Gouldman did with Andrew Gold while 10cc was on hiatus throughout the mid 80's? The band was called Wax, and was pretty awful for the most part. Still a nice time capsule... Cocaine's a hell of a drug... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsXj_DGw1l0

Great choice - maybe his Holiness detected some divine intervention in the choice of name for the "Gizmo", which was a guitar accessory developed by 10cc - it used a series of small wheels to "play" the strings, via an electric motor attached just in front of the bridge.
I recall 10cc playing this track when I saw them on tour between the Original Soundtrack and How Dare You? albums.

Clark: Many thanks for the comment. I have heard of Wax, and when I found out about them I assumed they would be the greatest band of all time... thanks for the link!

Sheridan: Glad you dug it. Do you want to see Ryuichi Sakamoto at the Stone this Sunday?

Wharf99: amazing comment. You saw 10cc live, and they played this? That is legendary!!

Yeah - it was the first concert I ever saw, at the Fairfield Hall, Croydon. The support act was an (then) unknown duo called Chaz'n'Dave...

BTW, thanks for bringing us these gems!

thanks to your little blog, 10cc has become one of my favorite acts. Not only do no two of their songs sound alike, but it's almost like every song covers a different genre altogether. further exploration awaits...
