The Blues Image: Ride Captain Ride [1970]

This one goes out to classic rock stations, the soundtrack to my youth. Sure, the rotations were predictable and our tastes eventually became refined - or deviated - to the point that it seemed there was more that was un-listenable than listenable.

But there were some damn fine songs.

This takes me back to my freshman year carpool, and that long, daily drive. To authentically recreate the atmosphere, this should be listened to at a level barely audible to teens, barely tolerable to parents.

Classic song, classic chord progression. I'd wager that this has been played on WPLR New Haven within the last 24 hours.

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I just mixed a Grand Funk Railroad "Closer to Home" and this song is similiar or just reminds me of it.
All the best to you & yours.

I love your blog, keep up the great work.

Sincerely, Robert

Very nice. Shame the wig out guitar solo at the end is faded out so early... just as I was just getting into it. Oddly enough, i was just listening to "Show Me The Way" off the remastered Frampton Comes Alive! which is in much the same FM vein. That crowd would've probably beaten me to death in 1976/7 if they'd seen what I was wearing...

I'm sure you're right Emmett. I'd say it's been played at least twice. And Frampton definitely fits the bill. Do all classic rock radio stations introduce Zeppelin songs with "time to get the Led out"? I think every station I listened to did. Thanks for tuning in, Robert.

For some reason I associate this song even more with Phish than CT classic rock stations... CT classic rock stations bring me back to working part-time in a stationary store after school every day. I once called in to request a song - a song by Devo - it was the first and last time I've called in to a radio station to request a song. The DJ told me he couldn't play the song - it didn't fit their mold. That might have been the moment when I realized that the radio basically sucked.

I thought the band name was 'Red White & Blues Image'. Great memory anyway - no hear long time!
